Omya Lightweight Fillers

Lightweight fillers are used extensively in applications such as joint compounds, insulating paints, elastomeric roof and high reflective coatings, polyester putties, adhesives and sealants, mastics, underbody coatings, and many cementitious applications such as tile adhesives, renders, grouts, insulating mortar, and structural concrete. The fillers provide benefits including reduced weight of final products, increased yield / coverage, enhanced rheological properties such as sag resistance or sandability, and improved insulating properties such as emittance, reflectivity, and thermal conductivity. All of these benefits lead to clear and tangible savings while improving the application of the final product.

Omyasphere 200 series

Omyasphere 200 series, based on closed-cell expanded perlite are suitable for hand, roller, or brush applications and can even be used in low-pressure spraying operations (e.g. tile adhesives, joint compounds, renders, plasters, self-leveling, roof coatings, insulating paints, waterproofing mortars, putties, mastics, adhesives). There is a large portfolio of grades with a top cut ranging from 120 to 500 microns, and grades coated to reduce hydrophobicity and improve stability over time in ready-to-use systems.

Applications

The selection of lightweight materials is driven by many factors. Each of these have a direct impact on the final system: application, manufacturing process, particle size and crush resistance needs, optical properties, temperature resistance, cost-in-use but crush strength is normally the key factor that drives material choice. If the final product is not under high shear production or high pressure spraying operations then Omyasphere 200 series, based on closed cell expanded perlite, is the most suitable choice. On the other hand if the manufacturing process or application includes high shear of high pressure then Omyasphere 900 series, based on hollow glass microspheres, is the most suitable.

Omyasphere 200 series is a lightweight filler based on closed-cell expanded perlite. Its low density allows strong weight reduction in final systems together with a significant yield improvement. The closed-cell structure combined with surface treatment allow reduced water absorption leading to excellent stability in the final system. Moreover, Omyasphere 200 series will enhance all insulating properties in the final system.
