Patinal® Silver by Merck KGaA, Darmstadt Germany is an evaporation material for optical and functional coatings. Thin films made from it shows a reflectivity of about 97% in the visible spectrum. Silver forms highly reflective but very sensitive surfaces; therefore, it requires proper protective coatings to avoid tarnishing of the coating. Patinal® Silver is used in coatings for electronics.
