Based on microfiber technology and derived from root crops, Curran® offers a unique set of properties for water based coatings. High technical performance combined with the renewable nature of Curran®, helps solve many of the challenges faced by the paints & coatings industry today.

Compatible in a variety of common water based polymer systems, Curran® is both green and multifunctional. Using it as a film enhancer provides improved mud crack and micro crack resistance and reduces film defects. It also provides improved opacity and in some cases extended open time. There are other benefits, such as enabling solvent reduction, resulting in reduced odour and VOC. With careful formulating, Curran® brings improved performance and result in cost savings.

> A sustainable and green alternative

Curran® is manufactured from waste streams produced by the food processing industry. Common raw materials are carrots or sugar beet, and because only materials otherwise discarded by the food industry are used, it does not compete with food crops for scarce land. CelluComp is working with major players in the food processing industry to optimise use of vegetable waste. Compared to other materials used as additives, Curran® has a low carbon footprint as a result of low energy consumption during production.

CelluComp is a dynamic material science company that develops high performance additives based on sustainable resources. Several years of R&D has led to a unique proprietary process that allows the properties of cellulose nano-fibres to be fully utilised and the development of multifunctional additives suitable for a variety of applications. CelluComp develops and commercializes Curran®, a material produced by extraction of microfibrilated cellulose from root vegetables. In March of 2015, CelluComp completed the construction of its state of the art manufacturing facility based in Glenrothes, Scotland in order to offer innovative product to customers and prospects around the globe.
