Pre-treated Metal can be Welded Successfully when the Correct Primers are Used

SpecialChem / Apr 18, 2011

Some manufacturers assume that they can not consider using coil coated metal for their products because they need to weld the metal as part of the manufacturing process. The fear is that primers, that are applied to pre-treated metal before manufacturing, will not hold up, or will smoke and burn when welded. Using a weldable primer can eliminate this concern and enable a manufacturer to reap the cost savings and quality benefits of pre-primed metal. Mercedes Benz is one such company. The company has been using prepainted metal with weldable primers for the past several years.
