Cobalt-based loss-of-dry inhibitor used in both solvent-based and aqueous air drying paints. Paints based on carbon blacks. Organic pigments and similar pigments, having large surface areas may loose the initial drying properties because of physical and chemical adsorption reactions between the drier and the pigment surface. In waterborne paints, can be used in unsaturated polyester systems based on a peroxide/Cobalt catalyst system. Avoids inhibition of the Cobalt accelerator upon storage. Strongly adsorps on reactive pigments, prevents adsorption of cobalt drier, reduces loss-of-dry upon paint storage, improves paint quality and consistency. High cobalt level, extremely effective usually. Should be added to the pigment paste before the grinding process. Supplied as a paste with a very fine particle size, may also be added during the let-down stage of paint manufacture, except in waterborne paints. Recommended usage level: calculated on total resins solids: for air drying paints: 0.3 – 0.7%, for air drying aqueous paints: 0.3 – 1.5%.
