Borchi® Gel 1420

Borchi® Gel 1420 by Borchers is a polycarboxylic acid amide in solution. Acts as a rheology modifier and wetting agent. Enhances thixotropy when used in combination with hydrophilic fumed silica or organically modified clays. Hydrogen bonding allows it to act as a reversible bridging agent that strengthens the thickening network allowing for greater shear thinning and faster recovery. It increases the initial viscosity and prevents settling of fillers. It can also enhance the effect of thixotropic resins. Benefits include improved flow and air release, increased anti-sagging properties, and prevention of fumed silica separation. Formulations with reduced amounts of fumed silica or clay are also possible. Borchi® Gel 1420 is recommended to use in solvent borne systems based on alkyds, polyesters and acrylics. Typical usage levels are 20 - 40 % of the fumed silica or organoclay pigments.
