Durazane® 5500 by Merck KGaA, Darmstadt Germany is an anti-scratch agent. It is a composite material consisting of an amorphous SiO₂ core and a polymer cladding material. Since the nano particles are completely incorporated in a polymeric matrix, no nanoscalic dust is produced when the solvent is removed.

The dried residue has polymeric characteristics like film building and transparent properties.
It is compatible with clear and pigmented solvent-based 2K PU coatings systems.
The recommended dosage is 1-2.5%.
Durazane® 5500 has a shelf life of 36 months.
