Driers / siccatives are organometallic compounds used in air drying paint systems. Their basic function is to speed up the drying process by enhancing the autoxidation of the resin. There are three types of driers / siccatives in paints and coatings: primary / active driers, secondary / auxiliary driers and combination driers. While combination driers are extensively used to achieve thorough drying of the film, secondary driers cannot be used alone, they have to be combined with primary driers to obtain optimum drying.
