Solutia Inc. Launches Solusolv™ 2075 Coalescing Solvent as the Newest Addition to Its Specialty Additives Product Portfolio

Published on 2007-09-12. Author : SpecialChem

St. Louis, Mo. -- Solutia® Inc. announced the commercial release of Solusolv™ 2075 coalescing solvent , a low odor, near-zero VOC coalescing aid for paints and coatings. As a stand-alone coalescent or blended with other higher VOC contributing coalescing aids, Solusolv™ 2075 helps reduce the overall VOC content of paints and coatings. Therefore, formulators can use Solusolv 2075 to help meet stringent air quality and environmental standards in North America, including those in California's South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD). Solusolv 2075 is compatible with a wide variety of waterborne and organic solvent systems. These unique attributes make Solusolv 2075 an ideal coalescing aid for minimizing VOC contribution without compromising either film formation characteristics or coating performance.

"Solusolv 2075 offers near-zero VOC and outstanding overall performance even in semi-gloss and high-gloss formulations," said Sean Crow, Vice President of Technology & Business Development at Dowd and Guild Inc., the Western U.S. distributor of Solutia's specialty additives product line. "The outstanding performance of Solusolv 2075 is supported by a significant amount of performance testing data that formulators should find extremely helpful."

"Solusolv 2075, along with our Butvar® line of polyvinyl butyral (PVB) aqueous dispersions products, are excellent examples of how Solutia has developed and continues to look for environmentally-friendly chemistries to help our North America customer base meet increasingly stringent VOC regulations," said Anthony Carignano, Global Market Development Manager for Solutia's Specialty Additives business.

Butvar PVB resin additives have been traditionally formulated in solvent-borne systems and provide a unique combination of enhanced adhesion, flexibility and toughness benefits to a variety of applications. Butvar PVB aqueous dispersions are formulated to provide the unique performance benefits of Butvar PVB resin but with near-zero VOC due to its waterborne chemistry. Solusolv 2075 is distributed throughout North America and is also available in South America, Europe and Asia Pacific via a network Solutia's Specialty Additive distribution partners.
