Mitsubishi Chemical announces that BENEBiOL™, a plant-derived polycarbonate diol has been selected for the interior finish coating at the Lawson Obihiro Nishi 21-Jo Minami 4-chome store in Obihiro City, Hokkaido, Japan.
Lawson with headquarters at Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo, which operates the LAWSON convenience store franchise chain, operates thirteen Hokkaido wood building registered stores that use Hokkaido timber for their interior exterior in Hokkaido.
92% Biomass Content
BENEBiOL™ is the plant-derived
polycarbonate diol. It was developed by Mitsubishi Chemical and is mostly used as the primary raw material for polyurethane resins.
BENEBiOL™ not only has up to 92% biomass content, but it also has superior durability and chemical resistance. It is used for paints and coatings, synthetic leather and artificial leather and outdoor goods.
Paint made from BENEBiOL™ was used on the larch paneling in the restroom interior of the newly opened Lawson Obihiro Nishi 21-Jo Minami 4-chome store. This is the first time that BENEBiOL™ has been used as a coating for a building material. The coating gives the wood a soft, warm texture.
Through a process of trial and error based on their vision of developing unprecedented products to provide added value to the customers, Mitsubishi Chemical succeeded in developing a
polycarbonate diol with a completely new chemical structure from plant-derived raw materials.
The case is an advanced example of green transformation in the Japanese paint and construction industries. Through the development of BENEBiOL™, Mitsubishi Chemical is committed to continuing to provide high value-added products and contribute to the realization of sustainable societies.
