Nubiola-led NANOPIGMY Project to Develop Ultramarine Pigment for Coatings & more

Published on 2013-01-21. Author : SpecialChem

Nubiola is leading together with Tekniker, a technological center based in the Basque Country (Spain), the NANOPIGMY project funded by the European Community's Seventh Framework Program.

Created in 2012, the project has an expected duration of 3 years and seeks to produce cost-effective and multi-functional ceramic pigments (based on the Ultramarine Blue pigment structure) with more functionalities than color to give automobile and construction materials (plastics, coatings and concrete) the required functionalities through the use of these nanotechnology-based pigments.

The NANOPIGMY project has four lines of development to achieve its aim:

  • energy efficiency and population health
  • energy efficiency and lengthen materials' lifetime
  • energy efficiency and reduction of hazardous products use
  • POP, health and lengthen materials' lifetime

The project consortium is formed by: Acciona, Bsria, CRF, Performance Masterbatches (PMB), Pinova (recently acquired by CPS Color), Uniwersytet Im. Adama Mickiewicza W Poznaniu (AMU), Tekniker as the "scientific coordinator" of the project and Nubiola, responsible for the overall management of the project.

The projects proposed by NANOPIGMY are certainly challenging, but the consortium feels very confident that the expected positive results of the research will result in the market launch of innovative, new products in the near future.
