New color-printable Makrofol® ID film developed by Bayer MaterialScience: Tailor-made for standard card printers

Published on 2007-11-15. Author : SpecialChem

Leverkusen -- Company ID cards, passports, driver's licenses and other cards made of Makrofol® ID polycarbonate film are durable and capable of withstanding high thermal and mechanical loads. They can be personalized using laser printing, for example with high-contrast images and signatures. This technique produces a print image of black-and-white or graduated gray tones inside the card that cannot be changed without damaging the card.

Bayer MaterialScience has developed Makrofol® ID Dyefusion to enable color personalization of IDs and cards made of polycarbonate. "This film comes with a special coating on one side that allows high-quality, cost-effective color printing using standard card printers," explains Georgios Tziovaras, an expert on plastic cards in the Polycarbonates Business Unit at Bayer MaterialScience. An overlay can be applied to the print image if required to enhance the anti-counterfeiting properties of the card. The new film offers all the advantages characteristically associated with the Makrofol® ID range - such as long-term flexural strength, minimal distortion and heat resistance.
