MesoCoat's CermaClad™ Metal Cladding Technology Wins "Oscar of Innovation" Award

MesoCoat Inc., announced that they their CermaClad™ high speed metal cladding technology has been awarded with the prestigious R&D 100 Award; this award is widely recognized as the "Oscar of Innovation".

MesoCoat partnered with 'Oak Ridge National Laboratory' (ORNL) and 'Edison Materials Technology Center' (EMTEC) for this award; and MesoCoat looks forward to a strong continuing development partnership with both organizations. MesoCoat CEO, Andrew Sherman mentioned "With this award MesoCoat's core technologies have won a total of four R&D 100 awards; and these awards coupled with awards from the Department of Energy, National Institute of Standards and Technology, State of Ohio, and a cooperative development agreement with Petrobras act as an excellent validation for the potential of the disruptive technologies that are currently being matured and commercialized at MesoCoat".

CermaClad™ was chosen over hundreds of other innovative technologies that have stemmed from Industry, Academia, and Government research across the nation. MesoCoat's CermaClad™ technology utilizes a high intensity light source, which is effectively an artificial sun captured in a quartz and aluminum reflector to rapidly fuse corrosion and wear resistant alloy, metal, and ceramic coatings on steel pipes, plates and bars. CermaClad™ is a high speed metal cladding process that clads 15-100X faster, is cheaper, and offers better metallurgical properties than competitive weld or laser cladding processes. This technology provides excellent corrosion, wear and erosion resistance for applications spanning multiple industries like Oil and Gas, Oil Sands, Shipbuilding, Mining, and Infrastructure.

The CermaClad™ application process and nanocomposite cladding materials primarily address the corrosion and wear-metal cladding market which is utilized to protect large surface areas against highly caustic, abrasive, and corrosive environments. MesoCoat is currently constructing a new production facility to further commercialize this technology; this facility would primarily be used for manufacturing corrosion resistant clad pipes for Oil and Gas applications clad primarily with stainless steel and other corrosion resistant alloys, wear resistant clad pipes for Oil Sands and other slurry applications clad with tungsten and chrome carbides, and corrosion- and wear resistant clad plates for Shipbuilding and Materials processing applications. The speed of the CermaClad™ process ensures that cladding can match the line speed of steel mills, and can reduce lead times for metallurgically clad plates, pipes, and tubes by almost 75% when compared to the cumbersome weld and laser cladding processes.
