KCC Heat dissipating Powder Coating Lifespan Electronic Devices KCC’s chief executive officer, Jeong Jae-hoon announces on the 24th that it had developed a heat-dissipating powder coating that can extend the lifespan of electronic devices by suppressing the rise in internal temperature of electronic devices and completed the patent application.

Prevents Overheating of Devices

The heat-dissipating powder coating developed efficiently disperses heat inside electric and electronic products and releases it to the outside, preventing malfunctions and shortening of life span caused by overheating of devices.

The product paints the case of a device that generates heat and is designed so that the materials with excellent thermal conductivity contained inside the heat-dissipating powder coating receive the internal heat energy and effectively dissipate it to the outside.

In addition, it is a product with excellent durability that is resistant to external impact or damage and corrosion resistance that is strong against corrosion. Unlike general paints, it does not use volatile solvents, so it is safe because there is no risk of fire. It is eco-friendly because it does not pollute air or water quality.

Since it is a powder coating in the form of powder, it is easy to store and transport and has economic advantages as there is almost no waste. The coating method utilizes an electrostatic spray gun to make the paint (-property) stick to the object (+-property) to be coated and apply heat to coat it.

Suitable for EV Chargers

The heat-dissipating powder coating developed by KCC is expected to expand throughout the industry as it can be applied to various fields such as home appliances, laptops, smartphones and LED lighting devices that are common in everyday life, as well as electric vehicle chargers, batteries and energy storage systems (ESS).

In particular, chips used in electronic circuits are becoming highly integrated due to the recent electrification of mobility such as electric vehicles and hydrogen vehicles and the lightening, miniaturization, high capacity and high output of advanced electric and electronic devices, resulting in a rapid increase in power consumption.

In many cases, the use of devices is restricted due to technical limitations in dissipating the heat generated at this time, so the heat dissipation technology to which this product is applied is positioned as a key field for future advanced technology development.

We are focusing on developing new high value-added materials to secure differentiated competitiveness,” said Hwang Sang-ok, director of powder technology team at KCC Central Research Institute.

"In particular, as the electric vehicle market is growing rapidly, we expect that the application of paints with heat dissipation function will expand because thermal management suitable for ultra-precision and high integration is important for battery technology, which is the most important core component,” added Sang-ok.
