Jotun Saudia Uses Jotashield Topcoat for Princess Noura Bint AbdulRahman University Project

The construction of Princess Noura Bint AbdulRahman University (PNBU) is seen as a milestone in the Kingdom's history. The university is dedicated to the empowerment of women in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The university campus, spread over eight million sq. meters north of Riyadh will offer an estimated built-up area of 3 million square meters.

The enormous size of the project explains its own complexities and challenges which kept the entire Jotun Saudia particularly Riyadh sales team on high alert during the various stages of the project which translated the efforts into success.

"The PNBU project was different from the preceding mega projects in terms of its size, modern project specifications, environmental aspect and the involvement of various engineering groups. It was followed up on a regular day-to-day basis and has kept the Jotun sales team busy for over a year now.

Beside Sales, Marketing, Local & Regional R&D have also extended their full support as and when required which built confidence in the sales. This shows that, on a complex project like PNBU Jotun can pass stringent product specs and underline strong support for sustainable eco-construction or the green building concept. " said Dilip Tambe, Sales Manager, Jotun Saudia - Decorative Projects.

The project approval came as a needed impetus to Jotun post the economic hole out coupled with increased competition. Jotun is well placed on this prestigious project and has started the supply to majority of the 2.5 million square meters of painting area.

Fenomastic Emulsion Gold is approved on the project for interiors and Jotashield Topcoats as an anti-carbonation coating for exterior.

As a single source solution (SSS) provider, Jotun is also supplying the protective coatings for structural steel, intumescent and powder coatings thus being a preferred supplier on this project.

The green specifications well coincided with Jotun's significant strides in designing green products and achieving international accreditation OHSAS and EMS across the Middle East helping developers meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards and attaining maximum LEED credits. Jotun's Fenomastic and Jotashield were accepted and specified as green compliant environment friendly products. Jotun emphasized its commitment to the green design of the project and its emergence as the leading, most environment friendly paint manufacturer in the region and its commitment towards the implementation and development of global best practices. Jotun is proud to be steadily contributing to all three dimensions of sustainable development from economic to environmental to social perspective.

About the project

Campus of the university would include an administration building, a central library, conference centers, buildings for 15 academic faculties including those for medicine, dentistry, nursing, naturopathy, information technology, languages, instant translation, pharmacy, several laboratories and a 700-bed hospital equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. It would also provide housing for university staff, mosques, school, kindergarten and exclusive amusement centers for families and students, the capacity of the university is around 26,000 students. The construction of the university will complete in first quarter of 2012, the university is also being termed as largest women only university in the world.
