Published on 2002-03-27. Author : SpecialChem

CLEARCorps, the Community Lead Education and Reduction Program conceived by the NPCA, will receive $2.5 million in federal funding as part of an expanded $80 million lead hazard reduction program operated HUD. The funding, the first HUD allocation for the CLEARCorps program, will help the private-public partnership to expand lead-hazard reduction efforts into several additional cities while increasing activities in existing locations. The program currently operates in Baltimore, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Milwaukee, Pittsburgh, and Portland, OR. Sites in Chicago and Detroit are expected to be functional early in 1999, and those operations in Houston, New Orleans, Oakland and St. Louis are likely to be expanded. The program is designed to provide a feasible and cost-effective approach to fighting childhood lead poisoning.
