Fred Anwari Named 2002 Recipient of FSCT Heckel Award

The Federation of Societies for Coatings Technology  announced that Freidun (Fred) Anwari, Technical Director, for Kelly-Moore Paint Co., Inc., San Carlos, CA, is the 2002 recipient of the George Baugh Heckel Award, the organization's highest honor.

Presentation of the Heckel Award will be made at the Opening Session of the Federation's Annual Meeting, at the Morial Convention Center, in New Orleans, LA, on October 30, 2002.

The Heckel Award recognizes the outstanding contributions that an individual has made to the Federation's interest and prestige. Established in 1951, the award is dedicated to the memory of George Baugh Heckel, who served as temporary Chairman when the Federation was organized in 1922, and as Secretary for many years thereafter.

FSCT Accomplishments

A member of the Golden Gate Society for Coatings Technology, Mr. Anwari has served the FSCT in many capacities. Formerly a Member-at-Large on the Federation's Board of Directors, he is currently Chair of the Bylaws Committee. In this capacity, Mr. Anwari has been recognized for his contributions to the recent revision of the FSCT Standing Rules and Bylaws. His recommendations have resulted in fundamental changes in the organization's structure and procedures.

In addition, Mr. Anwari has served the FSCT through committee involvement. He has served as Chair and member of the Technical Advisory, Mattiello Memorial Lecture, and Co-Chair of the Society Support Committees. He has also been a member of the Professional Development and Operating Committees.

On the Society level, Mr. Anwari was active for many years with the Cleveland Society. A member of the Society's Board of Directors, he served as President from 1993-94. He also served as Chair of the Technical Committee (1987-1992), and was a member of the Awards, Bylaws, Program, Audit and Finance Committees. He won the Cleveland Society Award for Merit in 1991 and the Dr. Franck Selden Award for service to the Society in 1996. Mr Anwari has won Society Speakers Awards for Presentations at the Paint Industries' Show (1988, 1989, 1990) and A.F. Voss Awards (1989, 1990, 1991 and 1992) for technical content of Society papers.

Career History

Mr. Anwari received the B.S. Degree in Chemistry from North Dakota State University, and the M.S. Degree in Chemistry from Cleveland State University. He was employed as an R&D Chemist at Coatings Research Group (1985- 93) and BFGoodrich(1993-99). He joined Kelly-Moore as a Group Leader in 1999. Mr. Anwari has been active in the coatings industry for over 17 years.
