Published on 2002-03-27. Author : SpecialChem

Degussa-Hüls announced today that it would withdraw from the production, research, development and sale of zeolites.

Degussa is closing its production facilities in Wesseling, Germany, and Taipei.

The decision to close down the zeolite operation after an attempt was made to sell the business. This was unsuccessful, according to the company, because of worldwide over-production and all-time low pricing in the sector.

It is also pursuing the sale of its Spanish site in Miranda del Ebro, as well as production technology for specialty zeolites. A final decision on the fate of Miranda del Ebro plant is expected by end of first quarter next year.

The idling of the German facility will affect 40 employees, which will be reassigned to other responsibilities. The closedown of the Taipei plant will displace 30 employees.
