BASF Showcases Expertise Across Pharmaceutical Value Chain at API China

Published on 2010-11-11. Author : SpecialChem

SUZHOU, China -- Under the theme "Expertise across the pharmaceutical value chain", BASF is presenting its extensive expertise to support China's pharmaceutical industry at the Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient China Fair (API China) from November 10 to 12, 2010. Visitors will learn more about the vast variety of product offerings from BASF listed as follows:

Excipient Soluplus®: Improving solubility and Bioavailability of active pharmaceutical ingredients

Soluplus® is a solubilizing agent which enhances the solubility of poorly soluble drugs. By improving drug solubility, drug absorption increases and as a consequence leads to much faster symptom relief. Soluplus® is developed for innovative process technologies especially hot melt extrusion. It has been recently awarded with the 2010 Silver CPhI Innovation Award; the launch of Soluplus® complements BASF's existing range of solubilizing agents.

Kollicoat IR® coating systems: Color-perfect, efficient, environment friendly tablet coating

This BASF product line enables individual, on-site production of tablet coatings in countless shades from only seven basic colors. Until the invention of Kollicoat IR® coating systems formulators relied heavily on support from coating systems providers whenever a new tablet color was needed. Nominated for the CPhI Innovation Award 2009, Kollicoat IR® coating systems provide a toolbox of ready-to-use film coatings, enabling formulators to easily create by themselves individual tablet colors on site.

Active drug substance phenylephrine: strengthening BASF's position in global cold remedies market

The well-established substance combats colds quickly and effectively. Phenylephrine is particularly popular in the USA, the world's largest market for cold remedies. Other than this, BASF supplies generic drug substances for a variety of therapeutic indications. The company is the world leader in Caffeine, Ibuprofen, Pseudoephedrine and Theophylline. Customers all over the world are supplied with consistently high-quality products from a total of six production sites.

BASF's broad product portfolio: Intermediates and Inorganic Specialties

BASF has one of the world's most extensive technology platforms for manufacturing chiral and achiral specialty intermediates for the pharmaceutical industry. The intermediate portfolio from BASF includes a wide variety of top quality building blocks, reagents, solvents and protecting groups used for chemical synthesis. Examples of achiral products include specialty amines, vinyl compounds, chlorocarbonyl derivatives and heterocycles. Under the ChiPros® brand, BASF provides its customers with a broad portfolio of chiral amines (such as R- and S-phenylethylamine), amino alcohols, aromatic and aliphatic alpha-hydroxy acids, alcohols and epoxides.

BASF also offers one of the world's broadest portfolios of highly innovative inorganic specialties for the pharmaceutical industry. It includes alkali metal alcoholates and other strong bases, boron complexes and compounds, organozinc halide reagents, hydroxylamine and its derivatives along with hydroxyacetophenones. In cooperation from lab to launch, BASF brings innovations to its customers that create a competitive and sustainable advantage for them. Among highlights at the booth are the borane reagents. High yields with superior selectivity and easy post-reaction work up have made BASF's borane reagents an excellent choice for many applications in drug synthesis. 5-Ethyl-2-methylpyridine borane (PEMB), the most recent addition to BASF's comprehensive line of innovative borane reagents, is a stable and easy to handle reagent used in reductive amination.
