Münster -- BASF Coatings has signed a master agreement with Hayes Lemmerz International Wheel Group (IWG) Steel. Hayes Lemmerz (IWG) Steel oversees all of the steel wheel manufacturer's purchasing activities with the exception of North America.

Contents of the agreement: For the next five years BASF Coatings will be the main supplier for all cathodic e-coats and topcoats used by IWG Steel. However, the agreement is more than just a supply agreement. It also governs the comprehensive cooperation between the two alliance partners and opens up new opportunities for a future systems partnership. "It's an innovative form of cooperation," concludes Carsten Vietze BASF Coatings AG's Account Manager for Hayes Lemmerz. "The customer and supplier will work together to analyze the coating process and at the same seek out areas for new developments in the future."

One of the goals is jointly to develop standard technologies for the electrocoating and topcoating of steel wheels. As system supplier, BASF Coatings will work to ensure greater quality and efficiency at Hayes Lemmerz IWG Steel. In addition to the already integrated Hayes Lemmerz International Wheel Group sites in Germany, the Czech Republic, Spain, Turkey and India, two further sites will be supplied with BASF Coatings materials (one in Turkey as well as one in Brazil). "Integrating these sites into the system supplier concept will be another major challenge for both companies," explains Vietze.
