BASF Coatings Plans Expansion of Resin Factory at its Münster Site

Published on 2004-03-11. Author : SpecialChem

Münster. BASF Coatings is planning to expand the existing resin factory at its headquarters in Münster. The expansion involves the installation of an additional production line for cathodic electrodeposition (CED) paint resin.

The relevant information has been filed and at present the project is awaiting planning permission. "This investment will increase the competitiveness of our coatings Business nd is a boost to the Münster site as a whole", says facility manager Dr. Gerd Kissau.

Production at the resin factory began in 1978 and in 1992 the facility introduced a continuous, round the clock production cycle. The factory produces a variety of resins used in the manufacture of many different coatings products. Resins - next to pigments, organic solvent and additives - are the main components and thus the "heart" of many coatings products.

Air, water and noise pollution levels at the resin factory are currently well below officially set emission limits and predicted to stay that way. An environmental impact study is therefore not deemed necessary by lawmakers. Traffic is expected to increase only marginally by 3 vehicles per day.
