Axalta-oil-pipesAxalta has announced that two of its powder products will coat the fire pipeline system of the “Túnel de la Línea” in Colombia. At more than 8.6 kilometers, it is one of the longest tunnels in the region and one of the most important national highway infrastructure projects in Latin America.

Coating for Excellent Corrosion Resistance

Axalta will supply its Nap-Gard primer to cover the long pipeline of the tunnel fire system. This two-layer system provides excellent corrosion resistance coupled with high-heat tolerances for both interior and exterior pipe coatings making it an ideal coating for the tunnel. In addition, Axalta’s high-productivity and easy-to-apply Alesta functional RAL topcoat will also coat the pipeline system. Both powder coatings are developed at the Axalta powder plant in Cartagena, Colombia.

Axalta is proud to be a part of Latin America’s history by providing two of our high-performance powder products to protect and strengthen this important construction project,” said Isabel Alanis, Axalta’s powder business director at Axalta.

The Túnel de la Línea” is one of the most important infrastructure projects in Colombia and will generate significant benefits, including reducing the accident rate on the road, reducing pollution, increasing foreign trade flows, and improving conservation and environmental sustainability in the strategic ecosystem of Cordillera Central.

From initial concept to final product recommendations and approval, Axalta worked for more than a year with one of its customers in Colombia, Oil Casan, to identify the best high-performing and corrosion-resistant coating solution for the pipeline project. Both companies presented coatings that met and exceeded expectations delivering superior overall performance.
