Axalta and the Chemical Industry and Engineering Society of China (CIESC) have issued an industry report on Sustainable Coating and Technology Applications of Commercial Vehicles and Railway Vehicles in China. The report provides a comprehensive review of the advanced coatings technologies, as well as the latest sustainable coating solutions for commercial and rail vehicles in China.

Comprehensive Review of Advanced Coatings Technologies

Axalta and CIESC Issue Report on Sustainable Coatings

“We are pleased to jointly publish this first of its kind industry report with CIESC,” said Willie Wu, President of Axalta Greater China. “As a global leader in the commercial and rail vehicle market, we are dedicated to its sustainable development in China.”

“We are focused on helping our customers drive sustainable growth by providing them with the innovative coatings that help make commercial and rail vehicles more durable and efficient, while also looking beautiful. Through this report, we aim to raise awareness of sustainable coating solutions, and promote a better and more efficient commercial and rail vehicle industry in China.”

Key Findings

Key finding of the sustainable coating and technology applications of commercial vehicles and railway vehicles in China include:

  • Waterborne, high-solid solvent-borne and powder coating technologies will undoubtedly be the key development directions of automotive coatings in the future. Their applications in the commercial vehicle and rail vehicle markets will continue to increase.
  • The painting technology upgrade fosters the industrial progression of commercial vehicles and rail vehicles markets. The sustainable development of the commercial vehicle and rail vehicle industry also forms a key part of the whole sustainable development in China.
  • critical that more commercial and rail OEMs join forces with coating material manufacturers and research and industry organizations to advocate the application of advanced sustainable coating technologies in commercial vehicles and rail vehicles.

China’s automotive industry has been the largest in the world for the last ten years and the Chinese commercial automobile and rail vehicle industries are among the largest in the world. China’s commercial and rail vehicle industry has undergone rapid changes in the past decade due to the introduction of government policies on environmental protection, VOC emission restrictions, and the adoption of sustainable painting processes is an important part of these policies.

“There remains substantial room for growth in the application of sustainable coating technologies in commercial and rail vehicle industry in China,” said Chen Hong, Secretary General of the Coating Commission of CIESC. “The report addresses some key issues facing the coating industry, namely the transformation and application roadmap of more environmentally responsible coatings and whether current coating technicians can effectively use coatings to satisfy the current process requirements of commercial vehicle manufacturers.”

“On behalf of CIESC, I would like to thank Axalta for sharing their experience and making a concerted effort to promote the sustainable coating development of the Chinese commercial and rail vehicle industry,” continued Hong. “We believe this will play a key role in promoting the sustainable development of the coating industry as a whole.”
