Akzo Nobel to Increase Coating Resins Prices

Published on 2003-05-22. Author : SpecialChem

Akzo Nobel Resins will be increasing prices for all coating resins sold in North America on June 1, 2003 by 3.5 to 5 cents per pound.

Dramatic cost increases in key resin raw material prices have precipitated this increase. Major second quarter increases have been incurred by the entire industry for active solvents, monomers and polyols. These materials are all being driven upward in price as a result of major increases that started early in the first quarter, for basic chemical building blocks. These include natural gas, which is used as a basic chemical raw material as well as for chemical processing energy, ethylene, propylene, methanol, benzene, ethanol and propylene.

The lingering effect of high priced crude oil derivative inventories is keeping other main stream resin raw material prices at extraordinary levels as compared to those seen at the beginning of the first quarter. These include key resin raw materials such as aliphatic and aromatic solvents, phthalic and isophthalic anhydride and styrene.
