Employees at one of Akzo Nobel's coatings sites in Germany recently clocked up a million working hours without a lost time injury (LTI). It means workers at the Deco International plant in Rosendahl have recorded no LTIs since July 2001. A special Akzo Nobel Safety Performance Certificate was awarded in recognition of the achievement.

"We are very proud of this official recognition of our safety record," said Helmut Twilfer, manager of Akzo Nobel's Building Adhesives SBU.

"It will encourage us to keep safety awareness up and aim at the next challenge. Two million man hours is the next milestone."

He also paid tribute to all his staff for the continued safety performance. "The trend reversal of the accident statistics could not have happened without the teamwork and cooperation of all the employess," he said.

The Rosendahl site produces building adhesives which are sold under the Schönox brand name.
