ACS Chemical Innovations to Exhibit Scott Bader's Liquid Thickeners at PAINTINDIA

ACS Chemical Innovations is exhibiting at PAINTINDIA 2014, which runs from 6-8 March at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, Goregaon, Mumbai. At the exhibition this year, the ACS Chemical Innovations stand (Hall 1, booth J2) will be promoting water-based technology chemistries from Scott Bader, showcasing the proven Texipol® and Texicryl® ranges of specialist thickeners and binders for: paints, coatings, construction products and Graphic Arts products. Mr. Tony Phillips, Global Market Development Manager for Scott Bader Speciality Polymers (formerly Technical Service Manager) will be on the stand throughout the exhibition to answer any technical questions.

Texicryl® and Texipol® Liquid Thickeners

The Texicryl range of ASE (Alkali Swellable Emulsions) and hydrophobically modified alkali swellable emulsions (HASE) liquid thickeners have been developed for thickening and controlling the rheology of water-based decorative paints. Being liquid state thickeners, Texicryl HASE products are easier to handle than more traditional powder thickeners, such as HEC type cellulosics. They have the added benefits of being less susceptible to bacteria degradation and the ability to control 'in-can' stability, having excellent pigment suspension characteristics (low shear thickening), with high shear brushing rheology, which results in significantly reduced 'splatter' of the finished paint.

For a coatings or construction products manufacturer, the Scott Bader range of Texipol thickeners provide significant rheological control and can help to increase production efficiencies and productivity. All Texipol grades can be added at any point in the mixture and once added thicken very quickly, significantly reducing compound blending times by at least 50%. Texipols do not require further ammonia or amine addition as they thicken the water present in the compound, with the added benefit of reducing the odor of a finished compound. A range of Texipol inverse emulsion thickeners are available, with specific grades developed for a variety of higher viscosity water-based paste compounds used in finished products such as: ceramic tile adhesives, masonry paints and trowel applied Stucco coatings. Specific Texipol grades are also suitable to thicken water-based screen printing paste inks. A number of specialist Texipol inverse emulsion thickeners can be used to thicken acidic and alkaline compounds, such as PVA's and EVA's in adhesive applications.

Texicryl® for Graphic Arts

Scott Bader's Texicryl range for Graphic Arts products is also being promoted by ACS Chemical Innovations at Paintindia 2014. This is a range of water-based styrene acrylic emulsion polymers and solid resins specially developed for use in a wide variety of Graphic Arts applications such as over print varnishes (OPVs), functional coatings such as barrier coatings, for blister seal adhesives and cold seal adhesives, as well as in Flexo and Gravure Inks for both board and film substrates. Key characteristics of Texicryl products regarded as important for manufacturers and end users include: low foaming; low odor; low particle sizes for good clarity and gloss, which is especially important for inks and OPVs. The Texicryl range has a wide choice of grade options to suit the different needs of end applications in Graphic Arts; the chemistries available include colloid stabilized emulsions for OPVs, barrier coatings and inks, alkali soluble grades for carton board inks, plus solution polymers and surfactant stabilized emulsions, where these best suit specific applications.

ACS Chemical Innovations, which specializes in paints, dyestuff and varnishes, has been the national distributor in India since 2012 for all Scott Bader Specialty Polymers, supplying four key Indian markets: Construction, Textiles, Coatings and Graphic Arts.
