FR CROS® 680

Technical Datasheet | Supplied by Budenheim
FR CROS® 680 by Budenheim is a phosphorus-based, flame retardant. It is a highly intumescent polymeric material, mainly used in fire-resistant formulations. In urea-formaldehyde, it shows enhanced flexibility, fast curing, soft films and improved water resistance. It offers hard films, great gloss, enhanced film clarity in melamine formaldehyde. In phenol-formaldehyde, it provides opaque films, improved fire & water resistance. Intumescent coatings are the ideal fire-protection solution for applications such as paints and coatings on the steel structures of buildings. Ammonium polyphosphates (APP) are key ingredients for intumescent coatings. Two-component formulations are typically composed of melamine, urea or phenol-formaldehyde resins and FR CROS® 680 as the hardening agent. Formulations based on melamine-formaldehyde resins and this product result in highly transparent water-based varnishes. In the case of fire, protective coatings and varnishes based on this additive generate a high intumescent layer which protects the coated material against combustion. It foams up very quickly and prevents a heavy emission of toxic and corrosive gases.
