FR CROS® 484

Technical Datasheet | Supplied by Budenheim
FR CROS® 484 by Budenheim is a phosphorus-based, flame retardant. It is a long-chain ammonium polyphosphate phase II. This fine white powder is used as a catalyst for solvent- and water-based intumescent coatings, as well for flame retardant coatings for textiles that need good char formation. Intumescent coatings are the ideal fire-protection solution for applications such as paints and coatings on the steel structures of buildings. It ensures the best incorporation into the various coating matrices. Ammonium polyphosphates (APP) are key ingredients for intumescent coatings. FR CROS® 484 has very low solubility in water and is insoluble in organic solvents. Above temperatures of 300°C, it decomposes to polyphosphoric acid and forms a gas layer which minimizes the amount of oxygen available to the substrate. The residual polyphosphate dehydrates polyols, carbohydrates and ROH or RNH containing substances. Subsequently, a heat-protective barrier (intumescence) is foamed up.
