The Chinese ink market is an important region from a global perspective, due in part to its steady growth over the last decade or so. But even today, Chinese printing is still a predominantly solvent based platform. Gravure printing inks are still formulated with toluene in many places and despite a growing interest in water based and more environmentally safe inks, solvents still rule the day for most packaging film applications and there's a reason for that.
If we look at the printing market in China, we see that there is a wide variety of print jobs being done here. There is textile printing, the printing of paper laminates for furniture, wall coverings, labels, flexible packaging of all types (cold seal, heat seal, laminates etc.) and there are some specialty areas like printed electronics for PCBs, and RFID tags. All of these different areas require high performance ink systems in terms of print quality and functionality.
