Prevent reagglomeration / and settling thanks to Coatex thickeners

After the mineral particles have been dispersed properly and prevented from re-agglomerating, the consistency or the texture of the formulation will need adjusting to prevent the appearance of sedimentation due to the impact of gravity on dense mineral particles. In-can paint viscosity is measured at low stress and therefore at low velocity gradients too.

Some thickeners interact preferentially with the aqueous phase of the formulation by generating high viscosities with low velocity gradient and are used to maintain the dense mineral particles in suspension by preventing them from sinking to the bottom of the container.

Acrylic thickeners imparting a pseudoplastic type rheology are best suited to prevent sedimentation. To achieve stability of high PVC formulations and textured coatings Viscoatex™ 730 is the most appropriate thickener.

Control Syneresis for enhanced storage stability

Syneresis is one of the common issues that appears during storage.It is mostly described as the floating liquid phase on the top surface of can coating formulations and represents an unaesthetic defect.

The use of hydrophobically associative thickeners allows retention of the water inside the can by providing then homogeneous waterborne formulations. Coapur™ XS 71 and Rheotech™ 2000 associative thickener allowsfor excellent syneresis control.
