DBDCB – An alternative to overcome regulatory challenges for preservation in Europe

This is a Past Webinar

BPR (Biocidal Products Regulation) and CLP (Classification, Labeling and Packaging) are regulations having been evaluating active ingredients used in paints, coatings and related materials for more than 10 years.

This has led to new thresholds and limitations with respect to the use of biocidal products - an effective microbial protection becomes more difficult if the choice of active ingredients is being limited.

Not only isothiazolinones have been set under pressure, but also the anticipated labelling of zinc pyrithione as toxic for reproduction will further decrease the preservation options. This might result in a revival of active ingredients that were not in the focus of the various industries in Europe so far. One of this active ingredients is dibromodicyanobutan, called DBDCB. Used in the US market for decades, Europe was reluctant to use DBDCB up to now due to sufficient well-known options.

View this webinar, where LANXESS' expert:

  • Provide insights on why DBDCB formulations are an alternative to ensure a good and stable wet-state preservation of your products
  • Review the last 10 years of biocide restrictions
  • Introduce their biocidal product formulations

Monika Lamoratta Technical Manager for Biocides in Paints, Coatings and Polymer Emulsions - LANXESS

Technical Manager for Biocides in Paints, Coatings and Polymer Emulsions Monika Lamoratta was born in Remscheid, Germany in 1981. Lamoratta studied Molecular Biology at Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, Germany (2004 - 2008) and obtained a bachelor degree.
Lamoratta joined LANXESS in 2008 as a technical manager for biocides in paints, coatings and polymer emulsions. She is responsible for microbial testing of biocides in paints and paint related industrial products. She therefore needs to be up-to-date on regulatory changes to implement them to the market. Moreover, she is involved in method development within the IBRG (International Biodeterioration Research Group) where she is chairing the Wet State Preservation group.
