Rosin modified phenolic resin. An irregular transparent solid obtained through esterification by glycerol (or pentaerythritol) and the condensation product of rosin, phenol(or bisphenol A) and formaldehyde. Found to be soluble in coal tar, ester, and turpentine oil, insoluble in alcoholic solvents as well as partially soluble in petroleum solvents. It mixes well with vegetable oils too. Improves the gloss and buildiness. Offers fast drying and good hardness properties. Recommended for production of phenolic paints and printing inks.
