PR 697.1 by Pine Rosins is a maleic modified pentaerythritol ester of gum rosin. It is obtained by Diels-Alder reaction of maleic anhydride and esterified with pentaerythritol. They are hard resins and more polar than the straight rosin esters. PR 697.1 is used in inks, varnishes, fruit polishing and coatings.
