SpeedCure 73 by Lambson (Sartomer) is a 2-hydroxy-2-methyl-1-phenylpropanone. Acts as a highly efficient, widely used, Type I photoinitiator. Radicals are formed by an a cleavage mechanism and as such Speedcure 73 does not require an amine synergist to promote radical production. The radicals formed can rapidly initiate the photo-polymerization of suitable acrylate oligomers and other monomer formulations. Exhibits good reactivity, low yellowing and high gloss. Offers hardness and good surface cure. It is a clear colorless to yellowish liquid. It is used in clear coatings, overprint varnishes, wood lacquers, printing inks and silicone based coatings. Suggested levels of use are 0.5 – 5% w/w.
