Tolsa has broken new ground in the biocides market with the launch of its ADINS® Protection range, a new series of biocidal additives.

ADINS® Protection Range - New Biocidal Silver-based Products

Tolsa’s new biocidal silver-based products, ADINS® Protection S4 and ADINS® Protection S10, are active against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria and fungi. ADINS® technology allows the incorporation of different active substances on the surface of the clay, obtaining a uniform distribution of these species throughout the additive.

In addition, the product allows an optimal dispersion in the matrix, which translates into high antimicrobial activity at lower dosages. Due to its stability, ADINS® Protection allows for reduced amounts of active substance to obtain the same antimicrobial activity, thus increasing its durability and reducing cost and its environmental impact.

Applications

These additives for biocides can be used in paints and coatings, plastics and rubbers and construction (i.e., joint mortars) . Biocidal products are highly regulated and, in many countries it is necessary to register the product even by application. All active substances used in the manufacturing of these products comply with the regulations of each country where they are used. Tolsa is undertaking extensive efforts to register its products in many countries throughout the world.

Tolsa has also undertaken development work to improve the fire behavior of TPEs, TPUs, and polyamides for construction and automotive applications. “Our unique FR technology continues to evolve and we see continuing growth for clay synergists in a wide range of systems that require the highest standards of flame retardancy,” said Antonio Esteban, Technical Manager for Tolsa’s Special Additives Business Unit.

Thermoplastic elastomers are increasingly being used as a replacement for thermoset rubber to achieve multi-material constructions and reduced processing costs, according to Esteban. The development work utilizing Tolsa’s ADINS FR technology has yielded positive results in intumescent-based systems for cable applications. In polyamide uses, ADINS additives have been shown to improve the anti-dripping effect.
