Sun Chemical Launches Low Migration Inks at IPEX 2006

Birmingham, England -- Sun Chemical has launched a new range of package printing inks that are designed to prevent or dramatically limit migration of chemicals in the ink formula within the barriers of the food package.

The levels of performance and quality demanded by print buyers, brand owners and packaging printers are continually increasing - and colour specialist Sun Chemical is rising to the challenge of ensuring it continues best practices for food packaging printing in the graphic arts industry.

Sun Chemical's innovative print products are based on in-house developed patented technology and are the result of extensive research and development work. The low migration ink systems from the global leader are specifically formulated and when used with an appropriate coating, significantly reduce the risk of migration into packaged foodstuffs and other products.

The two full value-added solutions for low migration quality (LMQ) ink systems are UV curable and conventional sheetfed.

IROCART LMQ inks are specially formulated and when used with an appropriate coating significantly reduce the risk of migration into packaged foodstuffs. Under strict testing, packaging printed with IROCART LMQ shows no ink oil in the packaged contents. Process colours and a mixing system are available together with suitable fount additives and a specially developed water-based coating. This low migration package for conventional offset printing can be used on a wide range of substrates.

Based on M-cure™ technology, SUNCURE ULM significantly reduces the risk of migration as well as being free of Benzophenone and ITX. M-cure replaces the photoinitiators used in existing UV systems with those that become locked into the cured ink matrix and so are unable to migrate.

Sun Chemical is also playing the lead role in a PrintCity project that will be optaining market and consumer feedback at IPEX to use at a later date for a "Best Practice Guide for Food Packaging Printing".
