SigmaKalon Deco UK Launches New Range of Flame Retardant Paints

Published on 2004-06-29. Author : SpecialChem

SigmaKalon Deco UK has expanded their range of performance coatings with a new range of flame retardant paints. Flame Retardant coatings act to delay the surface spread of flame and therefore provide the extra vital escape time in the early stages of a fire, when it can be more easily extinguished.

Building owners and those responsible for maintenance of buildings have a duty of care to all those who occupy or use the building, in particular when dealing with means of escape such as stairways and corridors. Following years of redecoration works in these communal areas and escape routes there is often a build up of paint layers, these multiple layers of paint could contribute to the rapid spread of flame across their surface, drastically reducing escape times. Deco UK has therefore responded to this problem by developing the new range of decorative paint finishes and intumescents, which have been independently fire tested to comply with the rigorous building regulations. (An intumescent swells up when in contact with heat source, thereby delaying the heat as it travels to the substrate to create the fire)

The range does not compromise on the choice of colour or decorative finish. The Vinyl Matt and Acrylic Eggshell are available in five bases and over 1,200 colours - six times more than the leading flame retardant brand. Julie Firth, Senior Product Manager explained that "this new addition to the Performance Coatings range make it one of the most comprehensive ranges of specialist coatings available today."
