Rohm and Haas Launches Three New Binders in Europe

Published on 2007-06-12. Author : SpecialChem

Frankfurt, Germany -- This year Rohm and Haas Paint and Coatings Materials ("PCM") European Business Unit presented three exciting new technologies at The European Coatings Show in Nürnberg in response to customer demand for high performance products which also specifically conform to the European 2007 and 2010 VOC legislation requirements.

All three technologies set new quality standards through combining the use of both the Company's binders and its unique additives portfolio.

Primal™ SG-380

A pure acrylic semi-gloss binder with optimized morphology designed for high performance interior and exterior paints.

For interior use, its improved film performance versus conventional polymers provides excellent stain resistance and "easy to clean" properties. In addition, its excellent hardness development allows quick re-opening to traffic after paint application.

For exterior wood applications, and in combination with Ropaque™ Ultra E, this new binder has demonstrated a unique durability especially regarding dirt pick-up resistance.

Primal™ HG-800

A pure acrylic gloss binder with enhanced film properties. This low VOC binder demonstrates excellent block resistance, wet adhesion on alkyds and overall stain and grease resistance. This binder has been designed specifically for gloss and semi-gloss trim paints, for interior and exterior use. Combined with Acrysol™ RM-5000, it provides improved flow, leveling and gloss potential.

Avanse™ platform - new applications

Avanse? technology is the latest pure acrylic binder innovation from The Rohm and Haas Company, global leaders in pure acrylic technology.

Used in combination with Ropaque™ Ultra E, Orotan™ N-4045 and Acrysol™ RM-5000, Avanse™ 412 provides a unique solution for low VOC, low odour interior wall paints providing the best balance of scrub resistance and hiding properties.

Avanse™ MV-100 is a new product designed specifically for use in industrial maintenance coatings, offering excellent corrosion resistance, superior gloss and gloss retention levels within the VOC regime below 100 g per liter. It can be easily formulated into primers, mid-coats, top-coats or direct-to-metal paints over a variety of metal and primed substrates. Avanse™ MV-100 is the perfect candidate to replace solvent-borne alkyd paints not meeting the new environmental and safety regulations.

"Rohm and Haas is widely recognized as the pioneer and global leader in pure acrylic binder technology. While we are proud of this, what really sets us apart is our unique position as a speciality coatings materials provider. We offer customers the full range of coatings technologies – binders, rheology modifiers, dispersants, biocides and opaque polymers," Dr. Cheryl Martin, General Manager Europe for Rohm and Haas Paint and Coatings Materials said.

"Coatings manufacturers can doubly benefit from our expertise as a total solutions provider. By using combinations of our different coatings technologies, they can raise the bar in quality and performance, as well as optimising the total formulation cost. We truly believe that we offer the Right Combinations with the Right Chemistry."
