Rhodia's Rhodoline® FT & OTE Paint Additives Help Formulate Sustainable Coatings

Published on 2012-11-15. Author : SpecialChem

CRANBURY, NJ, USA -- Breakthrough performance paint additives from Rhodia, member of the Solvay group, can power paint formulators' drive to create next-generation, eco-friendly coatings.

Rhodoline® FT and Rhodoline® OTE, innovative patented technology from Rhodia, are the new industry standard for enhancing Freeze/Thaw and Open Time performance, respectively, in low- to zero-VOC (volatile organic compounds) waterborne coatings.

"We see a strong market interest in low- to zero-VOC sustainable coatings. This growing demand however, poses some unique challenges that can now be met by key products in our broad portfolio of innovative and eco-friendly paint additives," said Ayaz Khan, Technical Service Marketing Manager for Rhodia Novecare Coating Additives. "Rhodoline® OTE and Rhodoline® FT-100 solve some of these more persistent issues, such as open time and freeze-thaw stability. Now formulators can satisfy consumer preferences for eco-friendly products and meet tightening regulations without compromising performance."

Rhodoline® OTE is a patented novel zero-VOC, alkylphenol ethoxylate-free line of additives for extended open time in waterborne coating formulations with textured and other similar high film-build finishes. Rhodoline® OTE provides a two- to four-fold increase in open time without the addition of solvents, and offers additional benefits, such as improved gloss, scrub resistance, stain resistance and elimination of wetting agents.

Rhodoline® FT-100, a freeze-thaw stability additive, is a patented zero-VOC, APE-free solution that protects waterborne low glass transition (Tg) latex-based coatings from freezing during storage, transportation or application. It addresses the latex coagulation issues of low- to zero-VOC coatings based on low (Tg) binders. Whether added to the binder or to the coating formulation, Rhodoline® FT-100 provides a coating that passes multiple cycles of freeze-thaw testing. Rhodoline® FT-100 also offers benefits such as improved gloss, stain resistance and elimination of wetting agents.
