Nanum Introduces Magnetic Ink Character Recognition (MICR) Inkjet Ink Technology

Published on 2013-12-10. Author : SpecialChem

MINAS GERAIS, Brazil -- Nanum Nanotecnologia S.A., a Brazilian Company, announced that it is supplying functionalized, water-based high concentrated magnetic dispersion that HP manufactures into its proprietary magnetic ink for the use with HP Inkjet Web Presses and other commercial and industrial MICR applications.

The product is a very high concentrated ferrofluid with a high stability and with the average particle size of about 50 nanometers (5x10-8 meters). This ferromagnetic fluid is used in thermal inkjet systems to print financial documents using the MICR technology. Nanum´s nanoparticles are helping to promote the use of nano magnetics ceramics particles on inkjet inks against existing printing technologies for magnetic security purposes. Thermal inkjet printing is a more cost-effective, faster and flexible technology in terms of multiple options of press sizes as well as hardware configuration arrays.v

Since the magnetic particles are solids, and insoluble in water, they need to be very small to avoid the cartridge´s nozzles to clog, but on the other hand, a high concentration of these small solid particles must to be present to guarantee a good magnetic signal response. This is where Nanum provides innovative solutions through proprietary processes, that allows a bond of other chemicals and additives to the nanoparticles, creating very stable water base dispersion with up to 50% of solids.

About Nanum Nanotecnologia

Nanum was founded in 2003 and it is formed by highly qualified professionals in nanotechnology which enables the company to develop unique solutions to market. The company focus is on Metal Oxide Nanoparticles, its functionalized dispersions and its derivative products are being used not only on special inks but in other applications such as anticorrosive paint additives, an internal combustion engine catalyst and a thermocromic sensor.

In summary, Nanum was chosen by its ability to develop, scale and produce nanomaterials with the highest control standards. It has showcased the possibility of using nanotechnology on existing industrial applications, overcoming the initial cost barriers and providing customized products and solutions to its clients.
