Mapei Launches Mapecoat PU33 a Flexible Coating Based on Two-component PU Resins

Published on 2011-04-22. Author : SpecialChem

Adhesives, sealants and chemical products for building specialist, Mapei, offers the South African market an extensive range of protective coatings, including an elastic paint; a flexible, watertight coating; a colourless water repellent and a graffiti-resistant protective barrier.

Ideal for concrete and renders, Elastocolor Paint is a protective and decorative elastic paint based on acrylic resins in water dispersion. Once completely dry, the paint forms an elastic film that is permeable to vapour, but impermeable to water, protecting against aggressive atmospheric agents. Elastocolor Paint has excellent resistance to ageing, freezing and de-icing salts. In addition, surfaces treated with Elastocolor Paint resist dirt because of the product's photochemical cross-linking property.

Mapecoat PU33 is a highly flexible coating based on two-component polyurethane resins. Especially suitable for the protection of concrete and as a watertight protection of flat and inclined civil and industrial coverings, this coating is highly resistant to industrial pollution and atmospheric agents in general. Once completely hardened, it can resist the aggressive action of ultraviolet rays and block CO2 and SO2 penetration. Furthermore, Mapecoat PU33 is highly resistant to tear and will bridge micro-cracks, is waterproof yet permeable to steam and excellently retains colour. It also resists freezing, is easy to apply and creates a pleasant aesthetic effect on surfaces.

A colourless, silane and siloxane-based dispersing agent in watery emulsion, Antipluviol W is characterised by its capacity to penetrate all absorbent mineral materials used in the building industry to act as a water repellent. This coating protects cementitious renders, cellular cement, facing bricks, natural and artificial stone against the eroding action of driving rain. Antipluviol W deeply penetrates porous substrates, reacting with the natural humidity present to form a hydrophobic water-repellent layer inside the pores and capillaries. This property makes the product an efficient barrier against aggressive agents present in the atmosphere, which are carried into the material by rainwater. The water-repellent treatment formed by Antipluviol W also improves the self-cleaning effect of the façade and reduces the capacity of moss and mildew to adhere to the material. Because the coating does not form a film on the surface, permeability to water vapour is not modified and the appearance of surfaces remains practically unaltered. Excellent resistance to alkalinity and UV rays ensures this product maintains its water-repellent properties over a long period of time.

Suitable for porous and non-porous facings, marble, granite and other natural stone facings, WallGard Graffiti Barrier is a water emulsion of polymer waxes specifically formulated for reversible protection of facings against graffiti. The barrier fills surface pores without affecting vapour permeability, creating a repellent barrier against oils and water that prevents graffiti from penetrating. The WallGard Graffiti Barrier forms a film that generally does not affect the appearance of a surface. For best results, the treatment should be extended up to the string-course, the expansion joints or conductors.
