Lubrizol Unveils Carbocure™ 7000 Liquid Surface Modifiers for the Wood Coatings Market

Published on 2012-05-16. Author : SpecialChem

CLEVELAND -- The Lubrizol Corporation has introduced Carbocure™ 7000 to the wood coatings market. Carbocure 7000 is part of a new generation of liquid surface modifiers developed specifically to improve the performance and aesthetics of UV-coated wood products.

Using proprietary Lubrizol technology, Carbocure 7000 displays excellent matting and tactile properties without increasing formula viscosity or affecting clarity, making it an ideal and versatile choice for high-end furnishings and other demanding flat-surface coating applications.

According to Dr. Peter Bloyce, Global Business Manager for Lubrizol Performance Coatings, Carbocure 7000 creates a smooth, uniform matte appearance with a soft touch and low haze.

"This is a noteworthy development in UV coatings," says Bloyce. "Unlike silica or micronized wax-based additives, Carbocure 7000 doesn't significantly increase the viscosity of a UV finish. Consequently, manufacturers have more flexibility and freedom in developing formulas, improving flow and leveling, and enhancing application properties. The end result is that furniture, cabinetry, and other pre-finished wood products can all gain in appearance and surface smoothness from the addition of Carbocure 7000."

Carbocure 7000 is in liquid form and features quick, agglomerate-free dispersion. It is easy to use and incorporate at any stage of the coating production process. In addition, this new surface modifier offers improved water beading capability and exhibits no issues relating to foaming or dust.
