JDSU & SCHOTT to Introduce DARO Anti-reflection Oleophobic Coating for Touch Screens

Published on 2012-06-07. Author : SpecialChem

MILPITAS, Calif. -- JDSU announced that it has collaborated with SCHOTT, a global technology provider of specialty glasses and materials, to create a high quality and durable anti-reflection oleophobic (DARO) coating that provides a protective barrier against fingerprint smudges and other materials on touch display devices. The DARO coating will initially be used on interactive kiosks in public areas, casino gaming devices, and on marine and medical instrumentation equipment.

Currently, anti-reflection coatings used on touch screen devices cannot be touched without permanently staining the coated surface with fingerprints. The new combination of technologies from JDSU and SCHOTT provides manufacturers with a coating that can handle high volumes of touches without staining the surface or making it difficult to clean.

"Working together with SCHOTT, we're able to bring together two of the industry's leading technologies to create a product that will satisfy the pent-up needs of the high-end touch and display market," said Dave Soberanis, Product Line Manager of Custom Optics in the AOT business segment at JDSU. "With a crystal clear and non-reflective surface that requires less maintenance, the innovative coating will create a better user experience for our customers, helping to improve the value of their products."

The new DARO coating will create a seamless user experience for customers. Key features include:

  • Provides ultra rugged surface on touch display devices
  • Coating is resistant to up to 450,000 rubs
  • Chemically inert coating resists stains
  • Great screen visibility in all reflective environments
  • Superior durability

The DARO coating will be available to customers in North America, Europe and Asia.
