General Motors, Ford & Chrysler Approves New PPG, NEXA AUTOCOLOR Brand Products

STRONGSVILLE, Ohio -- A new line of PPG Industries and NEXA AUTOCOLOR® brand low-volatile organic compound (VOC) automotive refinish clears, primers and sealers has received North American approval by General Motors, Chrysler and Ford for warranty repairs on their vehicles. The PPG and NEXA AUTOCOLOR brand products have been produced for use with ENVIROBASE® High Performance basecoats and NEXA AUTOCOLOR brand AQUABASE® Plus waterborne basecoats by PPG. The new products were all tested extensively and evaluated to the quality standards required by the three manufacturers.

The approvals cover product lines including PPG's EC700 series clears, ECP10 series primers and ECS20/ECS60 series sealers, as well as NEXA AUTOCOLOR brand P190-6759/6790 clears, P565-314x/312x sealers and P565-540x primers. Intended as ONE-VISIT™ clears, EC700 series and NEXA AUTOCOLOR brand P190-6759/6790 coatings eliminate the long flash times between coats, reducing cycle time without compromising the quality or appearance required by high-production shops.

"We are happy to have these PPG products on General Motors', Chrysler's and Ford's approved lists," said Doug Beuke, PPG product manager. "This proves the recognition of our consistently high product quality in the industry and the value of these high-quality, low-VOC coatings that reduce negative environmental impact to the automotive industry giants."

PPG's D8113 matte clearcoat has also earned approval by each manufacturer. Instead of using a flattening agent to achieve low gloss with existing clears, D8113 was formulated as a matte finish to help automotive manufacturers meet the growing desire in the marketplace for matte finishes on OEM vehicles.

According to statistics from PPG Automotive Refinish, tens of thousands of auto repair shops in more than 60 countries have shifted from using traditional solvent-based coatings to using PPG waterborne automotive refinish coatings. Consequently, more than 10,000 tons of VOC emissions and hundreds of hazardous substances have been reduced.
