Emerald Group Introduces Zero-VOC FOAM BLAST® 4201 for Architectural & Industrial Coatings

Published on 2011-10-19. Author : SpecialChem

CUYAHOGA FALLS, OH -- Emerald Performance Materials Specialties Group announced a new 0-VOC foam control agent--FOAM BLAST® 4201--to meet the performance challenges of today's more environmentally conscious waterborne architectural and industrial coatings, graphic arts and other latex polymer applications. The 0-VOC, alkyl phenol ethoxylate (APE)-free defoamer is highly effective in a full range of coatings and graphic arts formulations, including flat, high gloss, clear and pigmented systems, in both the grind and let down stages.

"Today's low- and no-VOC formulations require new foam control solutions," said Thomas Penny, Technical Manager, industrial foam control products for Emerald. "We found that many defoamers on the market were losing a significant level of efficacy over time in the new low- and 0-VOC coatings systems. As the formulations continue to change to meet new performance and regulatory requirements, Emerald continues to develop new foam control products to meet those challenges. FOAM BLAST 4201 provides a number of performance advantages that customers are seeking, including its effectiveness in delivering long-term foam suppression at lower dosage rates than antifoam products currently on the market."

When tested in a range of formulated resin systems from 0 to 50 grams per liter VOC, lower dosages of FOAM BLAST 4201 outperformed the competition with excellent, longer lasting foam control. Equally important, because it is effective in both grind and let down, FOAM BLAST 4201 eliminates the need for separate foam control products, offering a single foam control solution.

FOAM BLAST 4201 is an organically modified low-VOC silicone emulsion that is especially effective in combating foam over time, while retaining gloss. It will not generate haze and provides the excellent clarity desired in graphic arts clear coat systems and paints. It is also compatible in a wide range of polymers and coatings and can cost effectively replace multiple products.
