Dynasylan® 2201 EQ: A New Ureidofunctional Adhesion Promoter from Degussa

Published on 2006-09-01. Author : SpecialChem

Degussa AG, Düsseldorf, recently added to its product range a ureidofunctional silane adhesion promoter of significantly improved quality. The percentage of certain by-products, and particularly of the ethyl carbamate contained in comparable products, lies below 0.05%. According to information from Degussa, the global leader in specialty chemicals, Dynasylan® 2201 EQ, as the product is called, owes its existence to the development of a special production process, for which patents are pending.

The response to Dynasylan® 2201 EQ has been enthusiastic, because purchasers can now dispense with tedious and costly release testing, which represents an important advantage in terms of production. The innovative Degussa product is particularly in demand in the glass fiber industry and for foundry resins.

The Dynasylan® brand name stands for forward-looking developments, advanced production processes, and sound expertise in the applications of organofunctional silanes, as well as for tradition and professionalism. Since the initial trials on industrial production of silicon compounds at the Rheinfelden site more than 70 years ago, Degussa has filed more than 700 patents in this area.

Dynasylan® products can be found all over the world in coatings, adhesives and sealants, plastics, cables, glass fibers, and glass fabrics, and in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals. They perform a large variety of functions such as adhesion promotion, crosslinking, and surface modification, and can act as dehydrating agents, co-monomers, binders, or reagents. Thanks to their unique chemical structure, functional silanes are able to bind organic and inorganic molecules with extremely high durability.

For many decades now, these properties have ensured that new areas of application continue to open up for Dynasylan®. Degussa's organofunctional silanes are used, for example, as innovative building blocks in production processes in the electronics industry, in high-performance ceramics, and in space.

Degussa's Aerosil & Silanes Business Unit employs about 1,900 people worldwide at nine sites in Europe, the U.S., and Asia.

Degussa is the global market leader in specialty chemicals. Our business is creating essentials - innovative products and system solutions that make indispensable contributions to our customers' success. In fiscal 2005 around 44.000 employees worldwide generated sales of 11.8 billion euros and operating profits (EBIT) of 940 million euros.
