Borchers Paint Additives Division of LANXESS Corporation Introduces New Thickeners

Published on 2004-12-22. Author : SpecialChem

Borchers Paint Additives, a division of LANXESS Corporation (formerly Bayer Chemicals Corporation), has developed a pair of tin-free liquid polyurethane-based non-ionic rheological additives for emulsion paints and waterborne coatings. Both products are especially designed for "high shear applications" (e.g. brushing, rolling). Borchi® Gel 0434 gives excellent opacity of color with outstanding leveling properties and is ideal for architectural and decorative paints. It is easy to incorporate with other additives, and counteracts the tendency for syneresis in many binders. Borchi® Gel 0435 develops Newtonian flow behavior in medium and high shear range s . When used in combination with suitable low shear thickeners , such as Borchi® Gel PW 25 or Borchi® Gel LW 44, it results in a more pseudoplastic rheology profile. Borchi® Gel 0435 is perfect for pigmented and unpigmented paints used for decorative and industrial purposes, as well as for sealants, adhesives and leather coatings. Both products help to maximize spatter resistance.

"Borchi® Gel 0434 and Borchi® Gel 0435 offer superior performance to comparable products," says Karsten Job, LANXESS Corp.'s marketing manager for Borchers additives. "These additives exemplify Borchers' strong heritage of innovation in polyurethane-based rheology, and underscore our commitment to successfully anticipating environmental laws and regulations that affect our customers who manufacture paints, coatings, sealants and adhesives.

"Whatever a customer's needs might be, our technical support team will work closely with that individual to develop a formulation that is ideal for a particular application," continues Job (pronounced "YOBE"). "Our ability to formulate and re-formulate products at our Technical Services Laboratory in Pittsburgh makes us an ideal partner for manufacturers of wetting and dispersing additives, flatness and leveling agents, catalysts, dryers, antioxidants, adhesives, sealants and a wide variety of specialty chemicals."
