Bayer MaterialScience unites its biomaterials products under the new trade name Baymedix®

Published on 2010-03-22. Author : SpecialChem

LEVERKUSEN -- Bayer MaterialScience has launched a range of innovative biomaterials for medical devices under the new brand name Baymedix®. On Stand 2348 in Hall 8 of the Medtec trade show in Stuttgart from March 23-25, 2010, the company will be showcasing a broad spectrum of coatings products in its Baymedix® portfolio. This includes Baymedix® CL lubricious coatings, the drug-eluting Baymedix® CD coatings, and hydrophilic Baymedix® CH coatings, which are characterized by very high mechanical strength and particular hemocompatibility.

It also encompasses Baymedix® FG foams for wound dressings and Baymedix® AT topical tissue adhesives that are currently in development. These products can be used as an alternative to stitching materials for medical wound closure.

In addition to covering the existing product lines, the new trade name will also be applied to materials designed to meet specialized medical needs. The customization is an important component of Bayer MaterialScience's growth strategy for the medical market.

At the core of the Baymedix® family of products is Bayer MaterialScience's decades-long experience as a leader in polyurethanes and polycarbonates. With the new brand name, Bayer MaterialScience underscores its commitment to providing solutions to the medical device industry. Part of this commitment is the decision to establish an in-house development and application center and to set up dedicated production lines.

"We want to build a strong brand identity around all our various materials activities in the medical device market," explains Chris Koppenborg, an expert in medical products at Bayer MaterialScience. "We want the Baymedix® name to become synonymous with service, quality, and innovation in this industry."

While Bayer MaterialScience has a decades-long history of supplying medical-grade thermoplastic resins such as Makrolon® polycarbonate and Texin® thermoplastic polyurethane, the Baymedix® name refers to its new biomaterials segment. The company intends to aggressively grow this coatings-related medical business in the next few years through new product launches, increased marketing, and enhanced customer support.
