BASF Launches Calsan 50V Calcium Stearate Dispersion for Paper, Board Coatings

Published on 2005-11-04. Author : SpecialChem

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- BASF has launched a vegetable based lubricant for paper and paperboard coatings called Calsan 50V calcium stearate.

"Our goal was to create lubricant for paper and paperboard coatings that is free of animal by-products and that provides the same high performance as Calsan 50," said Craig Leavitt, Business Manager, Paper Chemicals and Dyes for BASF's Functional Polymers business in North America.

Based on palm oil, Calsan 50V calcium stearate lubricant provides good gloss, prevents dusting and fold cracking in paper and paperboard and is free of animal byproducts making it ideal for a number of food contact applications such as food packaging and other applications where use of animal-derived materials is not desired.
