Arkema Launches Certincoat® XE Series Hood, a Next-generation Container Glass Coating Technology

Published on 2013-01-29. Author : SpecialChem

Arkema has introduced a next-generation Certincoat® hot-end coating system that sets new standards for operational efficiency and ease-of-use, resulting in less maintenance downtime and reduced operating costs.

"Arkema's new XE Series hot end bottle coating system hood includes some groundbreaking advancements that re-establish our technical leadership in this industry," said Paul Keeney, Business Manager. "These patent pending innovations are mostly geared around ease-of-use for our customers and the resulting efficiencies and cost savings they will realize with this technology."

"The 'XE' stands for 'extra efficiency' because we've upgraded nearly every aspect of the hood," said Kaitlyn Fahey, Technical Marketing Engineer for Arkema's Certincoat® system. "Improvements have been made, most notably, to the slot distribution, recirculation loop, and a new feed port system," she explained. "And all job-change hood adjustments on the XE Series can now be made with a single pocket wrench."

Manufactured to Arkema's specifications in the USA, the Certincoat® system applies a uniform layer of tin oxide to the outer surface of glass containers just after they emerge from the bottle forming equipment. The tin oxide provides an excellent surface for the adhesion of cold-end coating. This combination of coatings increases scratch resistance, improves lubricity, reduces breakage, allows faster filling speeds, and enhances the bottle's overall appearance.

Based on extensive field testing of the new XE Series hood, the many upgrades have resulted in a decrease in both the cleaning time and the frequency in which cleaning is necessary. Average cost savings per year per line is estimated to be at least $15,000 annually. The XE Series coater also offers several optional accessories, including a deluxe end-bracket for tunnel size adjustment, slot plugs for directional hot-end coating application, an updated system controller DED display with an optional jam counter and adjustable bottle blow-off timer.
